It is one of the most common surgical procedures performed as part of infertility evaluation or treatment. It can be either diagnostic, as in evaluating the chamber of the uterus before transferring a frozen-thawed embryo, or therapeutic when performed to remove an endometrial polyp or fibroid before transferring a frozen-thawed embryo. Most of the time, it is a day-care procedure where the woman can walk in with an empty stomach in the morning and go home by evening. Though relatively simple, it provides the clinician with a lot of information and insights about the status of the uterine cavity.
